The Central Bank of Kenya has released the Bank Supervision Annual Report for 2019. The 2019 report is themed “At the Crossroads” as the Kenyan banking sector witnessed the repeal of interest rates caps in 2019. This marked a watershed moment after three years of interest rate caps. The report highlights supervisory developments, macroeconomic conditions, banking sector performance, regional and international development initiatives in 2019. In brief, the Kenyan banking sector witnessed growth in assets, profitability and capitalization levels in 2019 and is projected to remain resilient in 2020.
